Laura! My stunning, fit client of 15 years.

Laura and I went to high school together. Wow. I’m lucky to know her for a lifetime. She is one quality girl!

With her step ups holding a 15lb dumbell, she needs to make sure her weight is on the back and outside of her foot for better balance, control and to activate her glutes while not over-stressing her knee. She brings the opposite leg up in front of her to about waist level and pauses emphasizing balance. Be sure if you do squats that your weight is also on the backs and outsides of your feet. I see far too many people coming forward onto the balls of their feet and that loads the knees unnecessarily.

On a side note, happily I think at age 63 we are both still defying our age. I know I do simply because I act like a kid most of the time. Kidding! But truthfully, I’m not kidding. I just love goofing around a little AND staying on top of my game as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Precision Nutrition Coach. I am also getting super busy and I’m super happy that everyone is taking charge of their fitness sooner than later. Hooray and Happy New Year again!

Inspiration for 2020!

Did you know who the youngest person and first African American to ever fly around the world was? And how it happened? A chance meeting with one man, one moment, in his parents’ bookstore clinched it. He went on to build a plane as a junior in college and fly around the world. He had 30 dollars in his pocket and named the plane ‘Inspiration’.

It was also one moment for me when I was 21, I was totally out of shape, when my girlfriends dragged me to an exercise class. Niecia was teaching, she was 35, and fit. I was done. That was it. I specifically remember saying to myself ‘I’m going to be like her’. In 6 months I had memorized her routine, was teaching for her, and changed my major from Dietetics to Athletic Training.

The reason I’m telling you these stories is that I always hope to do for you what she did for me: inspire you to get fit and be healthy everyday. I never, ever lose hope and have a passion for it.. and more.

I think we all can inspire each other everyday but you have to dig down deep and find your passion(s) and/or simply open your eyes and let them come to you. They are there and they will give you a reason to live.

Quickie workouts are key!

Hi!

So, I am swamped with clients, have to jump on a plane to London for Christmas (bummer I know, huh?! Actually Paris and Geneva, too, yay), but I also have to fit a workout in especially since it’s a 10 hour flight. Decided. And once the decision is done, I am committed.

The plan? Run a little sand, grab my 12 pounders and quick do a couple of sets of squats, bicep curls and bent over rows. Boom! Done! Feels great.

So happy- down 15lbs!

Anita, my client I’ve known for oh about 10 years, has struggled: 2 knee replacements plus 2 broken patellas this year. Wow. And she’s been a size 18, am size 8, and everything in between over the years.

She came back to me out of the blue about 2 months ago in one full leg brace and honestly I initially scratched my head. We began plugging away at exercises I thought she could do pain-free but with quite a few limitations to say the least.

Today when I looked at her (and I see her 3x/week so it makes it harder to notice changes), she looked different. I paused and said exactly that to her. Then she burst out ‘I’ve lost 15 lbs!’, threw her arms around me, and we both had goosebumps because this is the beginning of a new chapter in her life. I can tell. She can tell. And it’s all her. I let her say it. That’s my reward.. seeing her bask in her happiness. Because when she wins, I win.

I love my clients!

Hi!

Lauren in the video, age 31, is working lower traps. She needs shoulder, back, hip, knee stability because of injuries even though she’s really young. A bit too much CrossFit and boxing classes that have been too fast and furious for her.

The next pic she and my client Anita, age 54, are hanging out with Milo Anita’s dog in between sessions.

We have such a friendly, casual atmosphere at Area 44 Fitness after training at many different big gyms and then opening 8 years ago. We wanted a relaxed, super friendly but serious about getting fit type of feeling. And it works! Enjoy!

Me ‘n the boys!

Hi!

Today at these clients’ lunch breaks we all worked out and had fun. Casey with his broken finger (in two places no less – yeouch!), Ahmood working his squat power, and Matt rehabbing his hyperextended ankle (chest up a tad more), and moi all over the place working a little of everything today.

The vibe is excellent here always! So casual and unassuming. Easy going yet we work hard but with good, safe form. I’ll always offer tips anytime, any day if you need it.

Enjoy!
